There is potential for a career move to Fredericksburg. We are in Fairfax now and used to live in Stafford. Stafford was the sleepiest, drive through town ever. And getting to Fredericksburg took 25 minutes depending on the time of the day, even though it was down the street.

The stretch between Richmond and Fredericksburg has always been a breeze when visiting my sister in Midlothian. And we would much rather live in the RVA area.

If we moved to north Richmond/ Ashland/ Hanover, would that commute still be a dumb idea? Trying to balance quality of life with commute and quality of life with house location. This area is just...HARD. Traffic is a biz.

I use to make that commute daily when I lived in Hanover, it wasn't terrible. (And I liked Stafford lol) . Of course I lived right off chamberlayne/301, Id just drive straight up that way and avoid most the highway mess and hop onto 17 once I got up there.

I live in Northside RVA and commute to the Fredericksburg area for work. Very doable

I commute to the DC area twice a week. Richmond to Fredericksburg doesn’t have much traffic, but it will take 45 to 60 minutes depending where in Richmond you are. Another great commute option is the train. I take the train every other week and pay $20 round trip to Alexandria. Not sure how much it is to Fredericksburg, but it’s really nice and stress free. The morning trains originate in Richmond, so rarely run more than a couple minutes late. You do have to buy in advance to get the best deals.

Took me 35 minutes from the Ashland on ramp to the route 17 exit (last Fredericksburg exit) on Wednesday. Wasn’t really speeding either. It’s not the worst.

I agree, this can work. I have family in Hanover who do this now several times a week. (And another to Petersburg from Hanover which is basically the same commute time). If you’re taking I-95 a lot can depend on which exit you need to get off, but typically budget 40/45 mins for the drive.

I have very, very little tolerance for traffic and have family midway between FXBG and Richmond. I would never make that commute.

Honestly, move to Fredericksburg. You’ll have access to more things via NOVA than in Richmond.

If I moved to Richmond or Fredericksburg, it would be so that I would rarely ever go back into NOVA again. Traffic is not my friend either, that's why I was thinking driving a longer distance but with minimal traffic would be better than the traffic I am used to in the Fairfax area. We don't go out to dinner. We are parents so night life stuff is in the past. And we aren't museum people so we are currently just kind of paying the cost of the area without really benefitting from much.

You’ll do the same here if you’re not into museums and dining, as those are big scenes here.

I’ve never gone back home and NOT hit traffic, is what I’m saying.
