What's the consensus on when trick or treating is this year? My niece is coming to stay with us over the weekend and we'd like to take her to Hanover Ave for the festivities. I haven't seen anything on what day it's taking place this year. TIA.

Halloween is Monday.

I know this. I wasn't sure since it falls on Monday if people go out on the weekend prior, my wife and I don't have kids.

I asked this a few years ago and people acted like I was crazy. There are definitely localities that dictate a certain day for trick or treating for safety issues. But Richmond and surrounding areas always do the 31st.

Yeah, it's not a silly question for anyone who has lived outside of Richmond. In college I lived somewhere that scheduled trick or treating and seldomly it fell on the 31st. Lots of rural communities that don't have city blocks or neighborhoods will do this. You're right to ask. Have fun!

You knew you would get some flack!
There are events all weekend, and you might find some trick or treaters on Sunday. Mostly folks here are the 31st.
There are some really cool family events around too. Trunk or treat, etc. Google to see what is near you!

I swear I've done it the preceding Saturday so we weren't up super late on Halloween night.
I even tried to double dip and do a little on Halloween iirc.

It's taking place on actual Halloween night.

Valid question. When I was growing up, some years I got 3 nights of trick or treating because my town was always the Thursday before Halloween for some odd reason, neighboring town was always the Saturday before, and other neighboring town was always on Halloween. We were all part of the same school district so I had friends in each neighborhood.

Always on the 31st. As it should be.
