First timer (yes I read the Wiki)! Just doing a quick trip to hit up some neat restaurants and things to do! I’ll be there Saturday - Tuesday. Downtown Richmond hotels were a little too pricey for me. We’ll have a car so we intend to drive into Richmond a decent bit, but hope to have fun things to do either in West Broad Village or North Chesterfield!

Anything neat going on for a couple friends in their late 20s?

Folk Festival! It's hands down Richmond's best event. Just don't try and park close by, find a spot on Broad or Grace near Fifth street and take the extra 10-15 minutes to walk over, it will save you a huge headache!

Scott's Addition has a ton of breweries and restaurants if that's your scene, usually on the weekends its pretty busy but with the Folk Festival going on it will probably re-direct some of that density.

Definitely stay in W. Broad Village, traffic in comparison to N. Chesterfield is nominal and its a much nicer area with a lot of shopping and restaurants!

If the prices are the same West Broad Village.

There are more restaurants worth eating at in Henrico between there and the city than North Chesterfield.

Otherwise it's about the same time to get down to downtown.

Edit: Traffic will be a little easier coming from North Chesterfield but there really isn't much outstanding around here other than some decent Latin American food. Henrico has better overall restaurants.

Edit 2: On Thursday there will be a weekend event thread to check out and closer to the weekend either check out RestlessRVA's Instagram or website for live music listings.

If you can find an Airbnb in Jackson Ward/Scott's Addition/Manchester/the Fan/Museum District and are comfortable staying in one, I'd strongly recommend that just because you'll be much closer to things to do. If that's not an option, I'd say West Broad Village (delicious bagels nearby at Cupertino's).

Since you'll be here this weekend, 100% go to the Folk Festival Saturday or Sunday. You can easily spend the whole day there if you want, or head on to other attractions (the most walkable parts of the river are literally right next to the venue).

are you staying at that hotel over the Park Inn? It looks really cool. stay there, it’s right by the highway into town and no tolls.

Get a hotel in Henrico and use the bus to get into town. The bus is free until sometime next year. Driving into town came be a parking nightmare.

Upvote for bus suggestion. Downvote for parking nightmare. Parking is easy almost anywhere, unless attending a major event (Folk Festival, for example).

On a normal weekend I'd agree with you about parking...but not this coming weekend.

An airbnb in the City would be a better option than a hotel in the burbs for this weekend.

totally agree. I think coming back another weekend would be better than these options. Suburbs exist for a reason, but not exactly worth visiting to my mind, that whole foods looks like any other whole foods..

With Folk Festival this would be a great weekend to visit, it's just that this is a great weekend to be close to the folk festival vs 20+ minutes of traffic & fighting for parking.
