I have a friend who recently signed a lease, and after visiting their apartment I’ve deemed it uninhabitable. The thermostat doesn’t work, it’s either like an oven or the heating has to be turned off entirely (which we haven’t even been able to do), there’s cockroaches even after an exterminator visited, and I have gotten itchy red bug bites on my feet and legs since visiting there. Has anyone had personal experience here? Any ideas on how to break a leasee?

I really want to try to advise them to break this lease. Personally, I would not be able to live there with my sanity and health intact, and I think that my friend is an at risk individual in general.

I rented from there for 2 years (2018-2019) and it was awful.

I also experienced “broken” thermostats and 80-90 degree living conditions. They didn’t do shit about anything I reported.

When they started incorporating the trash pickup service Trash Fairies, I tried to opt out because they were charging an extra $30/month and I could take out my own trash- but I wasn’t able to. I can see how that service could be helpful for some people, but half the time the TF staff would either just not pick up the trash, or throw the trash cans all over the hallway.

When I tried to move out early, they said I had to pay for the rest of my lease so I ended up sticking out til the end- then they charged me $700 for roach treatment when it was infested when I moved in. They claimed that I should’ve been reporting it all the time but after a while of “treatments” (this infestation was so bad that roaches were coming out of the outlets) I gave up.

I would never recommend the Towers on Franklin to anyone.

Some people have flea/bedbug allergies and some dont. That doesn't mean the others aren't being bit. It means your bites show and theirs doesn't

Yep. Dated a girl who found out she had bedbugs because I started having reactions when I spent the night. She was immune and had no idea she had a problem.

I’m starting to think it was just my allergies making and the bites were isolated from somewhere else, I dunno I have some pretty serious allergies so I can see that it would be the cause of my itchiness

In Franklin’s tower, the four winds sleep

Like four lean hounds, the lighthouse keep

Wildflower seed on the sand and wind

May the four winds blow you home again

I was able to break a lease once from a simple email. Mind you, it took months and months for a water leak to never get fixed, but all I did was send an email saying "since x, y, and z are happening, I was curious if we could end my lease in 3 months". They got back shortly and said they had to ask someone else in the department but asked me to be clear with what I was asking. So I put it every blunt after that saying I want the lease ended in 3 months with my security deposit back in full. Received a follow up a couple days later and they let us break the lease! We moved out three months later and got the deposit back in full.

Something like that might work out for your friend? Good luck!

This is making me feel hopeful, this was definitely at a different property though right?

I worked there a few years ago and it was shady. It was very much management vs residents. They really try to dazzle people with the first floor remodel and nice model unit. Get out! Do not live here. It’s had pest issues for years and it’s a boiler system so the thermostat is really for appearances only.
