I’ve also thought about this. I do think it’s a better route but other methods of full dive should still be pursued.

It would be amazing to control you dreams every night on demand and do whatever you want.

You can do that already it's called lucid dreaming and is a skill you can learn , it's among the absolute coolest things you can experience in life , I've had many already

I think initially full dive just needs something like neuralink to connect into the nerves that send signals to the brain. So connect to optical nerve, auditory nerve etc and the replace the signals being sent from those sense organs. I don’t think the bitrate of those nerve are terribly high. I can’t imagine how we get full brain full dive like nervegear.

There is a thing called lucid dream which is actually your usual dream in the REM period of your sleep but where you're as conscious (well in the best case scenario) as you re in the real life. One way is to synchronize those dreams, firstly, with the machine that is going to parse data (metrics and other stuff), secondly, if we're talking about some kind of VRMMO game - with the centralized server.

Now, the whole plan is crashing at the very first step. Putting a brain in the full-time REM sleep is kinda too unhealthy.Assuming, we're actually able to overcome the overdriving of the human brain, the "synchronization" will rather be done by intrusive methods, which is not going to be accepted by many people, if not all of them. Just imagine having some sort of connection port to your body\brain like people in The Matrix, which is going to be used every time you want to play.

And so on, too many problems arise. I may not be an expert in neuroscience or even in engineering but it seems to me like it's literally impossible.

We have a lot to learn about the human mind to integrate tactile perception but I don't think dreams are the key to solve this

We have no idea. We don’t know enough about the brain and BCI’s haven’t come far enough to answer that question.

your dreams are the way they are to commit things done throughout the day to your long term memory.

this would likely have catastrophic unforseen consequences

Ubiquitous FIVR is going to require Nanotechnology IMO, both for your brain and for the nanobots to look after your body while you’re in FIVR.

By the time FIVR does get here we will have total control over our psychiatric state.
