D Raymond clearly initiated the physical contact and then threw the punch. Not ok. Not part of the warriors vibe. No place for this on the warriors.

Yeah ... Not sure what Warriors team that person has been watching all this time, but when any of our teams have gone up against the Warriors, this is the exact person we can't stand having to watch our teams play against.

This is unacceptable, not necessarily because of 'a' punch. Its the way he punches him, that is something you would do if you intend to harm someone badly.

AKmelee t1_irgfkmk wrote

Are punches not normally thrown to do damage?

Edit: autocorrect

d_e_l_u_x_e t1_irgqdt8 wrote

Jabs vs hard hooks or uppercuts, some have more power and some setup other shots and probe defenses. Dray’s was a haymaker.

7

AKmelee t1_irgr5yk wrote

My comment was more to point out that it’s unacceptable because he threw a punch. The type of punch is irrelevant. The person I was replying to said he threw the punch to inflict damage which is generally the point of a punch. It was redundant.

4

d_e_l_u_x_e t1_irgrwix wrote

True but some punches have deadly intent like haymakers to the head or sucker punches. Little jabs or body shots are less likely to cause serious injuries but intent is to hurt regardless.

Kbdiggity t1_irfwv47 wrote

That was a superman punch intended to cause serious damage.

BassLB t1_irfysq3 wrote

Looked like he was going to follow with a flying knee too, but Poole’s hand was about to touch the ground and Green knows you can’t knee a downed opponent to the head.

19

synthjunkie t1_irfs3zn wrote

Man I hate green. He lost the warriors a chip during that record regular season run by getting too heated and ejected when the warriors had no other defensive options at the time (with bogut also out).

Imo he is the most easily replaced player in that team. So many better physical and level headed forwards they could snatch.

On top of that he pissed off Durant and this gave him that extra push to leave.

He got carried hard by Steph and Klay and thinks he's a god.

47

RotoHack t1_irfyfb5 wrote

Bring on the downvotes but he is absolutely not easily replaced. With green on the court last season they were #1 D in league and best since Duncan spurs. When he's off the court they were 13th. Fans who don't understand basketball think he's replaceable because he doesn't score points. There's more to the game than the box score.

30

tsk5000 t1_irg04bn wrote

Exactly, he's the X factor for the warriors like Rodman was for the bulls

21

YourmomgoestocolIege t1_irgn5jl wrote

Lol, he says he lost them the chip because he was the only defensive option and then goes on to say any one can replace him

6

IMOaTravesty t1_irg1cc0 wrote

Clearly you know nothing about NBA basketball except the stats. Dude is a monster on D. You can replace a Klay, you can't replace this gebroni. Dude has the intangibles that don't show on the stat sheet.

4

synthjunkie t1_irg9mwz wrote

Thats bullshit. Just an excuse to prop him up without backing it up.

The real reason Draymond can play decent D is because Steph tires the other team down. Basically, everyone says Steph is a stamina beast as he runs around constantly . This is why the Warriors best quarters are always in the 3rd or 4th. The other team is worn down from Stephs offense. Klay adds the icing on the cake. Draymond is just getting carried.

−5

RotoHack t1_irgc36e wrote

No it's actually just a fact. When dray is off the floor their D is average. When he's on the floor they have one of the best Ds in the last 25 years.

I'm gonna side with the best front office in NBA who disagrees with you. They clearly understand his value and that's why they made him one of the top 50 highest paid players in the league.

10

MisterGregory t1_irg2q4b wrote

"Dude is so good you can't even quantify it in stats to prove it." LOL what? There are math wizards and dorks who calculate this shit for a living and bleed numbers. There are zero intangibles in pro sports that can't be quantified and directly translated to contract value.

A pretty sweet intangible would be x(will my teammate deck me?) = nullvalue?

−9

stoicsports t1_irhd2fb wrote

I think the warriors calculated it when they kept him on the team.

He's a piece of shit

He's also a career positive on the floor

1

MisterGregory t1_irmvnnp wrote

Probably but he said, "intangibles that don't show on the stat sheet" - and you said "calculated it". I am saying they definitely did which means it does, for sure, show on their stat sheet. That's how they calculated it.

The idea that players in pro sports, for that much $$, have any "intangibles" is laughable and everyone should stop saying it. Including broadcasters.

1

stoicsports t1_irmw23b wrote

Oh yeah, well it's kinda different things I guess... traditional stat sheet doesn't show things like the Hustle plays to recover a loose ball, or deflections

But those things really aren't all that intangible anymore, they track most of these stats

Though even still something like "the defense is better with him on the floor because he is the vocal leader and calls out where the help is and rotates well forcing the offense into worse shots" is both sorta intangible and also something the warriors coaches definitely see

nsnyder t1_irgb45o wrote

You’re clawing back on your original statement. You said green would be an absolute no one if he wasn’t on the warriors. Now you are admitting he’s not bad and has good basketball IQ? Pick a lane

Also he picked up the defensive responsibility for those two as they grew from rookies. Do you believe those two turn into the offensive juggernaut without draymond taking up the defensive slack for them?

There were signs of Draymond fraying in the playoffs last year so I’ll bet this year, with his skills slowly diminishing, that the anger and outbursts will grow. There should be an o/u as to when he exceeds the technical limit during the regular season.

Not sure it can be called a sucker punch if you shove someone first and are face to face with them.

You don't expect your co worker who also makes millions of dollars to play a game to get so heated they escalate further than yelling and light shoving to knockout punches over words.

9

GerthBrooks t1_irgcbk1 wrote

Firstly, we don’t know the words so it’s hard to say that. Secondly, if your coworker is enough of a hot head to get in your face to the point where you have to shove him, maybe you should expect a punch because he’s clearly crazy. I’m not defending Draymond, just saying that isn’t really a sucker punch at that point

−1

Jhern941 t1_irg08q0 wrote

A sucker punch doesn’t have to mean the person was looking away. For example, it can also mean “I’m face to face with someone I believe to be a good teammate/brother and I have NO reason to think he will punch me in the face” and then they do. Green is a clown and anyone defending him is a dick riding clown.

8

GerthBrooks t1_irgbrr8 wrote

Not defending Green at all because I have no idea the context of the argument. My only point is that if someone is in your face already arguing and you shove them, you should probably be ready for a punch and it isn’t a sucker punch. It stopped being words when the shove happened and then Draymond escalated even further by throwing a punch. That doesn’t make it a sucker punch
