Just learned from relatives my niece is having a birthday party this weekend. I still plan on fleaing for it, but if anyone has a set of encyclopedias for sale, I'm keen. Not too worried about age, but preferably from the last ~40 years. Any leads or offers would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Check local flea markets. There are a lot so you’re probably better off calling around, but I know I’ve seen full sets at some before. I have the Worldbook set from 1986, complete with the full Childcraft set, but it’s from my childhood and priceless to me.

I know of that Childcraft set and I had my own opposite of World Book(?) set that I'd love to pass along, but no clue if those outlasted an estate sale. sigh

It's been a hot minute since I've been there but last time I was in in STD Flea Market I remember seeing some in a booth or two.

Even a 20 yearold encyclopedia is going to be extremely out of date.

You're not wrong, but the niece is only turning 6 or 7, so it's more just about piquing interest, not actual reference.

I mean I think it’s probably a great idea to give a kid correct information than to teach her the Czech Republic and Slovakia are one Soviet controlled country. Or not have any reference to 9/11. Or miss out on real fun facts like dinosaurs didn’t actually go full extinct and remain as birds and that dinosaurs has feathers and not leather skin. Sooooo I mean information is powerful.

I have a section of mine I might part with. I have a massive collection of them.
