This is an update from Willard Public Schools on an investigation of an anonymous message that was received by one of our Middle School staff members via email. The message stated, “Don’t come to school Monday.” Law enforcement and School Resource Officers were immediately notified and began an investigation. The investigation determined there was no credible threat behind the message; the individual was merely pulling a “prank.”

Contact has been made with the individual who sent the message, and appropriate action is currently taking place. While not credible, and while privacy laws prohibit us from discussing discipline of any specific individual, we can assure you that any person found responsible for making pranks or threats of violence will face consequences as allowable by both district policy and law.

We appreciate the concern and help of the individuals who have taken this responsibility seriously and assisted in its resolution.

We will issue future updates should there be a change in information that would necessitate we do as such. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Worthless fucks think threats of violence are “pranks”.

Let this waste of space rot in jail, you know, as a prank.

Local law enforcement was made aware of a series of phone calls, threatening in nature, made to a student. While Greene County Sheriff's Department does not believe the threat is credible, they are investigating the situation to the fullest extent. In an abundance of caution, we will have an increased police presence on our campuses today as we continue to ensure the well-being of our staff and students. We are in communication with Greene County and will continue to update you as the day progresses.

Violent threats were pretty common when I went to high school there, particularly my senior year (2015-2016). We often went into a soft lockdown.

I have a middle schooler at and a kid that went to willard through middle school. I think the issue with Willard is the culture clash. Especially in the middle school. Willard is a huge district thst pulls a massive number of students from the north and west side of Springfield. These kids who are coming from more alternative and liberal backgrounds are getting thrust into a middle school with the very rural far more conservativ kids from the Willard area. This is creating a lot of tension and hostility. I don't think the administration or school board is doing a good job creating a safe and accepting place. Parents aren't either. Racism and bigotry is taught at home
