Love seeing success for the little guy

It's not really a success, it's a MASSIVE failure. His previous salary was $246 mil.

He'll be fired soon if he keeps this up.

horseren0ir t1_je8mplf wrote

He paid off 7 billion in debt last year, he’s doing fine with the board

Salary ≠Total compensation.

Can't see why this is upvoted.

Pay package refers to total compensation so while he used the wrong term the comparison is valid.

Because reddit likes to forget that publicly owned companies have a non-negotiable fiduciary obligation to maximize profits for shareholders. If they don't, leadership replaces them with someone who will.

People think leadership is disconnected from what the audiences want but in reality it's the audiences that are disconnected from the business operation and how it works.

Pleasing the shareholder = short term gain.

Pleasing the customer = long term gain.

No, his salary was not anywhere close to $246 million.

that's a nice little paycut from the $246 mill he got in 2021. Poor guy.

He's probably on a strict coupon shopping program and a SPAM heavy diet to make up for it.

He tried to adjust his personal finances but he misunderstood the advice “cut back on subscription services”

He must have a side gig as a Uber driver to make extra income.

This guy is such a joke.

He can take his reality tv and shove it up his a**.

$40m for the year they had (and are about to have?)? lol

Could’ve shaved off a few more millions in debt by laying himself off.

I mean this years got some good potential flash is amazing from everything we’ve heard , evil dead looks good, dune will be fantastic and get a bump, the color put on and Wonka have potential , aquaman 2 might based on reports might be bad but first movie did a billion dollars so this won’t bomb , and Barbie has amazing talent behind it this years got a lot of potential for them

−13

low-ki199999 t1_je7y2ti wrote

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you said, except Aquaman 2. That movie is not going to make anything near what the first made. It’ll be a bigger drop off than Shazam 1-2.

1

Crafty-Antelope1244 t1_je83172 wrote

Why downvote me it’s objectively has the potential to be a good year I’m not saying wether his payment is justified I’m just saying the slate looks good this year movie wise they could all bomb for all I know

−5

Crafty-Antelope1244 t1_je92lo8 wrote

Wow some of you are so on rich guy hate mode you can’t objectively look at a movie slate and say the year has potential 😂 what sad pathetic lives that must be to be blindly ignoring fact because we hate a guy

We should add some extra tax brackets. Right now it's 37% on anything over $539,900.

38

Less_Tennis5174524 t1_je7emtf wrote

Most likely he will be paid via a personal holding corporation and then pay himself via dividends to reduce the tax burden.

If he really wants to reduce taxes he will just take loans and only take personal income to pay off the interest. Its called "borrow and die" and its how the ultra rich basically avoid paying taxes.

Schemes like these are why the tax rate of personal income is irrelevant for the rich, they dont pay it at all.

29

huskersax t1_je8zut6 wrote

It's also why they make such a big deal out of trying to end the estate tax. It's their specifically to make sure Uncle Sam theirs one way or the other.

11

LeeroyTC t1_je7ja2n wrote

Discovery is based in New York which has its highest state tax brackets that start $1 million, $5 million, and $25 million.

It’s hilarious that his previous salary makes his current $39 M salary look like he is giving a deal. Maybe paying your executives such high salaries while claiming that you are tightening your belt is a problem.

Maelstrom52 t1_jebzqzm wrote

So, based on the article, the main thing that Zaslav achieved was reducing debt load (by eliminating the need for outside financing) and increasing free cash flow. For people in finance, what would be the benefit, from WBD's perspective, from reducing debt load? Does it mean that they generate higher profit yields from projects or is there some tax or other reason why this would be important to a company like this?
