Well, they didn't get paid because they made 4s of music, they were paid because they are Kraftwerk and Hannover Expo used that quite a lot in advertising, imagery and sounds and all.

Yes, I would have to agree with you on that. Kraftwerk name was huge at the time. Still is! Reminds me when Eno of the Roxy Music fame produced the 95 Microsoft sound. He got lot less though.

Shit, I'll make you one shorter or longer, whatever you want, for a fifth of that.

It's crazy, man! They did get some neg. feedback from it, so decided to do a full song in four different languages after that.

.. .and released that as CD single (which I managed to buy at that time).

it says "Expo 2000 Radio Edit" and it's 3:36 long.

Nice! How many different edits does it have on it? ...or just the one version?

50,000€ per second is an impressive rate. (In reality, the whole production process likely took quite a bit longer.)

Yes and all the other stuff too: Permission to use images and band name and all.

At some point in rising fame you are not paying to the venue to show your name, venue pays you to show your name.

IMHO Kraftwerk passed that limit in 1970s, after Autobahn. In Germany, at least. Globally after The Man Machine.

They had a number of records (3) before Autobahn and having 2 of them, I can say they are ... shall we say ... 'experimental'. I'm still not sure if they are horrible or brilliant .... but nothing between is possible. :)

Yes, I recon it was the whole "PR package", not just the 4 seconds of music,...which actually is not very good at all (I suppose I can say that as I am a big Kraftwerk fan).

Of course; who knows about these artists? Could have taken weeks or months as far as we know!

It's Kraftwerk, I'd say that was pretty good value for money. I forget how much Brian Eno for the 3.25 seccond Windows 95 start sound but it was in the same ball park.

Eno got paid $35k. That'd be a bit more realistic payment than what Kraftwerk got :)

€200 is nothing, unless you meant €200,000.

It was 400,000 DM which was roughly €200,000 in 2000. This is about 220,000 USD in today's money.
