I'm a little rusty on history - but if I remember correctly, the word for cat meant literally "he/she who mews".

I have an Arabian Mau (basically same breed). They are 1) large, 2) friendly, and 3) dumber than a wet carrot. If you like golden labs, this is the cat for you.

I also heard that the cats (quite BIG actually) were used as guard cats for some Egyptian tombs. Not too unbelievable if you've ever been attacked by a (wild / angry / kung fu trained) cat!!
