What an uniquely Vermonter sort of accident. Like an artisanal cheese truck overturned on the side of a snow covered state highway.

I'd disconnect and maybe disassemble everything, then use IPA and a soft brush to clean everything. Let it dry for a day in a warm, dry place with good air circulation and I bet it'll still work after reassembling it.

If it was not on when it got spilled on and it was just water or sap it can be saved, I spilled juice on my ps4 once and had to take it apart and clean the motherboard with a q tip and isopropyl alcohol for a while but I got it cleaned and it worked for years after and still does.

I have a 24" 2k monitor, gigabit fiber etc down here. I work from home, and can work from a boil just as easily, it just makes for long days because of startup and shutdown time on the rig :)
Yea, I have gone a little too far with all that on top of vacuum lines and a pump, pretty sure my bucket-and-oil-lamp-using neighbors think I'm a heretic.
suboptimal-synthesis OP t1_jdmqqaf wrote
We'll find out, I am going to take it apart and clean with distilled water.
suboptimal-synthesis OP t1_jdmqxt3 wrote
A friend was willing to jam during a boil but unwilling to bring any decent gear inside the shack, and rightfully so, so I grabbed the cheapest stuff I had which included a $150 oscar schmidt telecaster clone and an ipad connected to a breaking MIDI kb and we messed around for a while. I only have a short snippet of video recorded which shows my friend's face, so he'd probably rather I not post that, but if we do another session I want to tape more.
suboptimal-synthesis OP t1_jdmr35d wrote
it was fully finished syrup at about 200F which caused a mason jar to explode and rain glass and syrup all over everything. I figure the lost syrup sets me back $25 which is 1/3 the cost of the mixer.
It was not on, and I am optimistic that it's cleanable, but won't really know until I pop it apart.

Oh my absolute living god I am so sorry. What brand is that mixer? I can’t see the logo. Because honestly I’d just scrap the unit if possible. Once that syrup dries it’s going to insanely effect the conductivity of any connection you make. And all of your pots are just gonna be gummed to high hell. Was this the only thing that got sprayed?
FlamingYawn13 t1_jdmw5jd wrote
I wanna agree but this was hot maple syrup. If that got in between the actual components in the pots there’s gonna be no way to actually clean them short of replacing the entire mechanism. Anything else and you might be fine but this just seems like a total loss to me

unfortunately sugar's solubility in ethanol or isopropyl is... not good.
suboptimal-synthesis OP t1_jdmykie wrote
it's a mackie mix 8 and it was brought in there with the explicit understanding that it might end up nailed to the wall as a warning to nicer gear
the syrup explosion tilts me more than the lost mixer, tbqh. Don't pour hot syrup into cold jars.
FlamingYawn13 t1_jdn3imc wrote
Yea def make a centerpiece out of that.
Or if you compose wait till it dries and hook it up to a dedicate beater mic and something cheap that records. See if you can’t get some weird effect off of it. Then sample it and call it the “warm syrup sample pack.”

Agreed, I heat my bottles up in the oven to 170° before filling. Glad it was the board and not someone's skin !
mikilobe t1_jdn9m4m wrote
It's a total loss if OP doesn't try, but op only loses IPA if they do. just submerge the whole thing in a tub amd let it soak/ softly scrub. As long as they dry it realy well, it shoudn't hurt anything (might take off the white labels though). I don't know how much these cost, so maybe it's not even worth the trouble. Screwing it to the door like it is, is just going to attract ants though.
