There is literally a station 100 m from the terminal at DCA.

The Silver Line will be open to IAD on Tuesday (15th) though I don't know if there is a bus from the stop to Udvar-Hazy, but as I recall the parking is on the airport area for those that drive. Google maps shows there is a bus that takes 16 minutes between the two. This would be the least expensive way to get there. If you are leaving on Monday there is presently a bus from the end of the silver line to IAD as well but all this is on Google maps.

There will be a bus from the airport to Udvar-Hazy, Fairfax Connector 983, but the new bus routes don't update until Wednesday. While the train opens on Tuesday, there's going to be a lot of stupid ceremonies and ribbon cuttings, etc. Don't show up at one of the new terminals at 7 am on Tuesday and expect to be able to commute.

Didn’t they run a shuttle years ago? It seems like that is no more.

Silver line to Wiehle-Reston, exit on the north side. There are escalators in the middle of the plaza there, inside a little covered area, that go down to the bus station underneath. Watch for the shitty metal flooring at the top of the escalators, though.. I've tripped and almost busted my ass several times. Take the 983 bus to U-H.

There's literally a metro station at DCA. Usually yellow or blue will take you there, but yellow is down right now for maintenance. Take the blue line.. if it says the destination is Franconia-Springfield OR Huntington, it will stop at DCA.

There’s a metro station at DCA, on the blue and yellow lines. Just checked and it seems to be running as normal. It depends where near the Mall you’re staying but yellow line might be a bit faster.

For Udvar-Hazy, I don’t know that there is a good way to get there via public transport (edit: I see someone else posted the link, yes needs a connection) so might need an Uber/taxi. I prefer Udvar-Hazy to the Mall portion of the Air & Space museum.

Be warned there may be no food/drink at Udvar-Hazy at the moment. I was there a couple months ago, they had closed the old McDonalds that was there and refurbishing and getting a new food place in timing was TBD.

There’s a Shake Shack that’s taken the place of the old McDs and is open

First, bring food like other people have posted.

Take the Silver Line from Smithsonian to Reston. It could take about 45 minutes.

Then, take the 983 bus from the bus depot near the Metro station to the museum. This could take around 30-45 minutes depending upon wait time.

It is worth it. But I would recommend making a whole day out of it to give yourself a buffer for travel.

Google Maps to/from DCA is messed up right now because the yellow line bridge is closed, but you can take the blue line from the DCA station to Smithsonian or L’Enfant Plaza stations, it just takes a lot longer. It’s probably 30-35 minutes not including walk time. Google was giving me the same weird instructions last week.

FYI there are abismal food options there and it’s not really near anything. Bring snacks!
