Despite the huge 60mm drivers they are leaning more towards bright imo, bass is definitely strong when the music calls for it but it's not got the common huge midbass hump.
The first thing I thought when I got them was that it sounded a bit like a grado with even bass.

It's extremely comfortable to me and I didn't get on well with the elegia because of clamp, I don't know why they've listed it as so strong.

Reply to comment by rhalf in Stupid question? Why were the 60s/70s the golden age of amps but the headphones were so terrible? by solid12345
That's.... pretty inaccurate to say the least.
Headphones were designed for vocals only in the beginning. Hence a lack of anything but midrange.
It was a quick process from late 60s to 70s in which companies saw the potential of Headphones to consumers and threw the everything at making a good sounding pair, we got electrostatics and orthodynamics because of this. Headphones would sound pretty good from this point onwards.
Now in regards to bass, we never needed big fat bloated bass until the loudness wars. It was perfectly fine to have a grado or senn with a bass response you heard rather than felt and it was deemed a better approach to messier, cheaper sets. The famed Sony mdr10 was always regarded as bloated in the bass and therefore an aquired taste, now its relatively little bass if you compare its freq response to modern headphones. Once mixing became garbage tier, throwing bass everywhere became the 'preferred' sound, since everything sounded awful on a more neutral set. It has nothing to do with nonsense like laptop speakers haha. Just consumers buying shitty mixes.

A lot is actually, it's a way of recording, not a way of processing. So it's not labelled like 'hi-res, hifi etc' is.

6xx have a tiny soundstage even compared to closed backs, this mod would do nothing but make it smaller unless there is zero damping and the cups are giving off resonances and harmonic distortion all over the place.

You can get 3.5mm TRRS for certain headphones that are cabled for dual side single ended and a single sided balanced connection like the HE R9.
It's super jank and can cause a short if you use a normal dual 3.5mm balanced but it's the simplest solution to accommodate wireless add ons like the blue mini whilst maintaining compatibility with unbalanced dual input cables that most companies use.
But yea, the pic is a Chad 4.4mm.

Rs2x, it's just magic with rock. Its about as far from any popular FR curve you can think of but damn if it isn't fun to listen to with specific genres.
Not sure about upgrades, I've been wanting to try out the rs1x for the 50mm driver but have heard its a different flavour. Not as aggressive and exciting.
The 325x was too bassy for me and sounded closer to generic harman.

Ah sorry I forgot they use xbox wireless now instead.
It's a higher bandwidth but from what little information Microsoft has released about it, it doesn't appear to be lossless and does use compression for the audio transfer which might negatively impact sound.
So, you should see quite an improvement to the gx with an amp. I can't find the specifications for the controllers 3.5mm output but being so cheap and small I'd be surprised if it output anything over 1mw.
Having to use them at max volume greatly increases the chance for distortion. So an amplifier will deliver the necessary power to make the gx sing. I'd still personally recommend a dac as well (or a combo unit) just so that you have as clean a chain as you can, after all those headphones can be quite revealing and adding an amp to the controller output might exacerbate discrepancies in sound.
Depending how much you want to spend, a fiio k5 pro would be a pretty affordable little unit.
Also, if your TV doesn't have optical out, you can use a hdmi splitter to create your own. No usb or wireless dacs work with the xbox as far as I can't tell.

If your controller is the wireless version then it uses Bluetooth.
Neither the output of a gaming laptop or a controller are particularly 'good' so that's the reason there's no difference.
I thought the GX could split mic audio and game audio, so you'd plug the mic into your controller and the headphones into an amp. If not, then a cheap lapel mic will be of a similar or sometimes better quality than the one on the gx so that can be plugged into the controller and clipped to the headphone wire.
I'd still recommend one of the Bluetooth audezes as it's much less hassle for anyone looking for a clutter free set up. The GX is more for people that already have a nice amp and dac set up for running headphones and just want a dedicated gaming headphone.
DasGutYa t1_j6on6ty wrote
Pretty much everyone here is going to recommend that you get an amp/dac combo to connect through your tvs optical output and just get a long cable so you can have the amp close to you.
Using an amp with a controller output is a little bit of a waste because the controller has pretty terrible audio output and transmits via Bluetooth compression.
I'd imagine after grabbing that behemoth of a gaming headphone, you're willing to sacrifice a lot for the best audio performance, so running a wire from your TV isn't going to be the biggest inconvenience ever.
For a cleanest set up possible however, I'd recommend returning the gx and getting one of the wireless audeze gaming headphones. The GX isn't really built for a 'minimalist' set up (I mean, they're bloody huge man).

"The psychoacoustic model provides for high quality lossy signal compression by describing which parts of a given digital audio signal can be removed (or aggressively compressed) safely—that is, without significant losses in the (consciously) perceived quality of the sound."
Significant and safely are the two words you should be reading there. It's not proven 100% of the original lossless file as its literally lossy and getting it right 'most of the time' as their model does, isn't the same as getting it 'always right'. So lossless is still obviously preferred.
I mean you're really taking the whole work out of context as it's designed to lose less of the recording than the data shrink would suggest, not provide a perfect match for lossless.
Not to mention the factors of the dac and amp portion of a tws, few actually measure 'perfectly' despite sonically transparent dacs and amps (such as topping) being affordable both as portables and desktop set ups. So wireless has a ways to go, that said by someone with both wireless and wired set ups.

The biggest issues with these gaming headsets (excluding the gx which is made in U.S hmmmm) are the design of the headband and yokes. Which is why they've changed the layout of the maxwell to hopefully remove these problems.
I would like to point out aswell, that it's hard to find headphones made of plastic that don't break at the yokes or headband for a number of people. Beyers and senns audiophile range basically have the fewest qc issues you'll find but as soon as you look at game or portable gear.
Beyer t51/aventho cups breaking Senn momentum and gaming headphones break as do the wireless portables like 4.40 poor headbands Nth 100 break at yokes Focals headbands break Hifiman.... lol Grados wood break at cups Etc
The only headphones that have very few reports of breaking are suspension strap types, Audeze newer designs, hifiman suspension straps, DCA suspensions straps, philips fidelio etc etc.
There's a fundamental problem with singular headband designs that aren't heavily reinforced with metal ie beyers.
How about we blame the industry as a whole rather than singling out audeze for what is basically par for the course qc with plastic headbands and yokes, might actually influence a bit more change.

I think the same but about cheap headphones.
I mean, by spending a little more people can get much better build and sound quality, and instead of funding multiple cheap products that are a significant source of pollution and disrupts wildlife, they can own one for a longer length of time and be happy.
I don't think cheap headphones are all that impressive anymore, you know, having access to less harmful alternatives such as focals and dca aeons, even audeze now their qc isn't garbage, items that will last a decade instead of being garbage after 3 months.
