-
Squirrel Point Light. Nice little hike and nice place to hang in the summer and watch boats and seals float by. Also there is a Revolutionary War graveyard before the trail head. One grave is of an officer who guided Arnold up the Kennebec to spot #4 above.
-
Fort Gorges. You need to charter a boat or kayak out there, but worth it!
-
2 Ammo Industrial Park, Bangor Maine. Lost my virginity here in 1992 in the back of my Buick Lesabre. Epic historical event.

Its newer.....built in 2006. That may make a difference in comparison to a house built pre 1980.
We do use thermal curtains and thermal roman blackout blinds on all our windows, which helps with loss of heat via windows and a sliding glass door.

A quarter for each month.....in Winter. In Summer, I usually get 2-3 months for each quarter. So if I fill in Nov.....I can make it til end of Feb. Keep heat at 67 during day and 60 at night. Hot water runs off oil. House is newer....2006. 3 Bedrooms.

Don't comparee yourself to others. You will just be miserable. Do you make enough money to:
-
Pay your bills and living expenses without using a credit card?
-
Save money into an emergency fund?
-
Save money for retirement?
-
Have spending money to eat out once in while, go to a movie, etc?
-
Take a vacation.....even if in Maine?
If you answer yes to all of these questions, then your doing pretty good. Keep in mind wealth is relative. $46K in southern maine is like $55K in central Maine, etc.
But also don't get complacent. Keep on learning, get certs, a degree, etc to build your skills. Stay hungry.

I would probably recommend saving yourself a trip. The college is located in a remote part of the state. The airport you would fly into would be Bangor Airport and then you have like a 3 hour car trip. If your going to be an online learner, then visiting campus is a moot point. You can schedule all appointments via Zoom with most campus office's, etc. Invest that money you would spend on a ticket, car rental, and hotel and invest it into a good computer for your program or desk/chair. I work in higher ed in the state, and I am assuming you are going into the YourPace program? If yes, then this program and staffing is great. You should have a good experience.
The UM system has like 7-8 campuses across the state. The have on accreditation for all of the campuses instead of each school being accredited by NECHE. Not really an issue for the students. UMPI is small and the school itself is not much to write home about, but it serves the needs of the people in that remote part of the state.
