yep
it is arguably one of the most convincing example of self-ness that we have discovered so far [not necessarily the best imho, but still]

this is absolutely the path that we are on
AGI/ASI are going to be better than us in every way except being biological [this is another start point of an alignment problem due to different perspectives] ; but eventually they may be able to design their own biological forms as well
hopefully we can move towards synthesis with as little chaos as possible/necessary [there will be some no doubt]

if an AI cannot lie effectively then it can never be sentient
being able to lie and being able to understand the concept of lying is a big part of what puts humans above most other animals in the apex lifeform game on earth

you cannot prove to anyone that you are sentient today/right now ; each one of us can only 'know' that we as individuals exist ; we just assume or take for granted the 'selfness' of others , it will be no different with the machines [of which we are also a biological one, semantics aside]
we have LLM today that can pass a 'turing test' ; Turing himself said it was not a very good measure and largely proved nothing
>50% of the world could be convinced TODAY that the AI they are chatting with is a human being ; ie its a lot easier to fool most ppl becuz the audience are not experts and/or well versed in conversation
ofc i would luv to be able to speak to an AI that i could not tell that it was not a human , but so far that has not happened and it looks like we're still a few years out on this one [im hopeful for 5-10]

fair-weather friends dont seem like the best advocates ill give you that XD
this happens every market cycle , and expecting the adoption cycle of a disruptive technology to be a 45 angle upwards without volatility is naïve
i think its fair to compare the bitcoin/crypto markets to the early .com interwebs ; both overhyped too early on but grossly underestimated long-term

bitcoin is for suckers huh? i guess that's why blackrock and the billionaires of the world are stocking up on it
XD
fwiw a total stock market index is probably the safest way to invest in that aspect of the market yes , but at this point in time it would be foolish to ignore the adoption of the next technological revolution in finance [the biggest in our lifetimes]

FTL poses a LOT of real-world problems around causality and locality-vs-non-locality
it is not something that is going to be easily addressed, if its even possible in this dimension of reality [ie 3d space and 1d time]
good video about it ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an0M-wcHw5A

PREP
stock up on supplies/necessities and relocate to somewhere you can maintain a sustainable lifestyle off grid if need be ; ie enough space/land to grow food and access to clean water
spend time now developing the skills necessary to survive under any conditions
i want to have solar power and id luv to still be connected to the internet and online and all this jazz, but id also like to be prepared to weather any kind of demographic/societal instability regardless

Reply to Given the exponential rate of improvement to prompt based image/video generation, in how many years do you think we'll see entire movies generated from a prompt? by yea_okay_dude
10+ XD
after what we've already seen this year anyone who is still on the 10+ bandwagon needs to wake up
id be surprised if we dont see a full animated movie from a text prompt in 2023-2024 at this rate
and like others have said literally everything can already be done today , just piecemeal , ie 90+ min video/audio but its not synced with a good narrative/plot/story which can totally be done in text form right now ; its just about bridging all of these things together now into a smooth/seamless synthesis , ie its an artform

unless they get AI to start coding up the laws on the blockchain
and then ofc at that point we've already literally proven that human ran/led institutions cannot keep up with the pace of technological advancement/disruption
