It does look good — but the nimbys successfully got into court. The judge made some really weird comments on the issue

Cheap? No. If you want to save money you probably want to find a garage outside the city and taxi/Uber to/from it

Perceived safety is crucial for actual use of the infrastructure though.
The city of Cambridge has done actual research on this — and it is clear that the majority of people who want to bike won’t until bike lanes are physically separated from cars.
Without perceived safety — you end up with empty bike lanes, leading to the never ending tit for tat that no one bikes, which just isn’t true

I’m excited for the changes to this sub. Cambridge is the best place I’ve ever lived and I think many here probably agree, and there is a lot of passion in that.

You permabanned anyone who merely posted to state disagreement with your decision. This was never about toxicity or discourse. You can make up excuses all you want, but I do not believe them.

Not allowed to talk about bikes at all. No posts about safety issues in the city, no posts about cyclists getting hit/killed, no posts about charity rides; all because the singular mod of this subreddit had a bad day.

Cars are great. I like how they go fast and make vroom vroom noises. Flexing my ankle slightly makes me feel like a man.

Cars are the #1 cause of death of children, but at least you can take your kid to a "trunk or treat" in a parking lot!

Yes it was to preserve parking for residents. The city is considering restoring partial two way traffic, but I suspect that now that garden street residents have gotten a taste of the good life they will try to fight the city on that
