We came from NYC / NJ, and I have to say that’s the best way to put it - there are plenty that are fine and a bunch that are just terrible.

We’ve resorted to just buying bagels when we visit my wife’s mother.

Despite the dumb name, La Favorite bakery in Warwick has done several custom birthday cakes for us and they’ve all been great.

Gregg’s is OK, but overrated IMO (as someone not born and raised here).

As a transplant to RI (albeit 20 years ago), the infatuation with custom plates is one of the few Rhode Island things I just cannot grasp….

Can’t speak specifically to rum cake, but Scialo’s definitely is not the same with the new owner.

Scialo’s was our go-to for all baked goods pre-pandemic. When it reopened we were so excited, but… definitely not as good now.
