I don't really get the buzz around electric can opener, It's pretty easy with a manual one, and a very good manual one that will probably last 20+ years is what, 20$?

Mostly for ability issues. My mom has arthritis and doesn't have the grip strength for a manual opener, but yeah, I've had the same manual opener for 30 years.

Backstory: I was getting tired of these electric can openers that keep breaking after a year and taking up counter space and wanted to find the can openers my parents have used for 25 years, the ones that mount under the counter. Black and Decker Spacemakers. This lead me to stumble upon the fact that GE sold their small appliances division to Black and Decker in the early 1980's and before that they made this can opener with a similar model number in the USA, and found one on ebay for far less money than these typically go for in basically new condition. I didn't buy this to admire it, I bought it to use it, and will be installing it this weekend. It cost me far less than it should have for what I got, in my opinion.

The model number is EC60, just like the Black and Deckers that replaced them later in the 80's and into the 90's.

Let me know if this works. I have never had an electric can opener work more than a year. I have got a couple of old vintage one from thrift stores that gave out almost immediately.

Hahahaha. Had one back in the 80s. Lasted six months before we threw it out because it is bad at it's job. Wouldn't open lots of cans, but worse was that it would drop the cans from cabinet height when about half way open.

We recently purchased a 1989 NIB Presto version of this. So far so good.
