We are in the market for a new laundry basket after our Sterilite plastic one finally cracked beyond use. (We have another round plastic one that's still going strong.)

I've been trying to move away from plastic and have spent a surprising amount of time trying to track down a non-plastic laundry basket. I hesitate to use a woven basket of some kind, which was honestly my first choice, because I don't want to take a chance on blouses getting snagged or a damp garment damaging the fibers. As far as damp garments go, though, we hang them to dry before they go into the laundry, so this wouldn't be much of an issue.

Right now, the top contender is this one: https://www.steelecanvas.com/products/small-bag-caddie-casters-briquette

Honestly $145 seems like a lot to spend on a laundry basket, but if it's a solid BIFL, I'm happy to fork over.

Does anyone have experience with Steele Canvas, especially their laundry items? Is there a better option that I'm overlooking? Should I just bite the bullet and search the thrift stores for a plastic replacement? Insights are most welcome!

My sister uses Japanese mail sacks that she received from box's sent from her Mil from Japan the sacks are double canvas with a reinforced mouth with a rope. I don't know if you can still get them. I plan on making my own when our basket breaks. They just gets hung out with the wet laundry when they carry wet laundry out to the closeline. And they hang up easily where needed to collect dirty laundry.

Ooh, those sound incredibly durable and pretty similar to the Steele Canvas laundry bag. I tried to make something similar years (and yearssss) ago out of lightweight duck canvas, but I think I was using the wrong needle on my sewing machine and it was a total disaster.

I think hand stitched with heavy cord would work better with canvas. You don't need small stitching for clothing bags.

These are fantastic. They last forever. I work in a prison and we have some that are older than me, still doing daily use and I’m almost 30. Plus they are just super convenient. We are going to get one soon with a divider

Oh wow, that's awesome. Longevity is such a huge selling point for me nowadays. Thank you so much!

I have been using one for several years. My only issue is that my husband drapes wet garments over the edge, which caused rust in the frame that seeped through the canvas. It is very well made, though.

Thank you! Do you have any issues with getting the bag off/on the frame?

No problems. The frame is plenty bendy, and it just took a few times of on/off to get my routine down.
