My dad has one. It’s about 1cm of rubber under the canvas. It is very very heavy.

Waterproof, not bulletproof, ain't no centimeter of rubber in a jacket.

It's apparently felt, boiled in a specific way to keep water out, it's heavy and you should make sure to wear something under it because it's like a tiny cactus, prickly.

Felted wool is darn near waterproof. It's a treatment done to 'brush' wool so the fibres kind of interlock and create a mat across the entire surface.

It would be a boiled wool, google says its called frieze in english but im not sure, we call it vadmal in swedish. Its a heavy wool weave that has been boiled to be very sturdy and water resistant
