I’ve had real trouble finding a decent set. The “best” ones are still flimsy, the worst ones are decorative pieces of junk.

See if you can find a local blacksmith. Good tongs and a descent poker are true buy it for several lifetimes
I’ve never had tongs; just a really good wrought iron poker to shove things around.
I came here to say this. This is simple work for a blacksmith. For more money, he'll pretty it up for you .
This x 10. (Fireplace owner for >20 years.)
All you really need is a good poker with a hook. Maybe a shovel for ash depending on your setup.
I need good tongs
We got ours at Lowe's and we think they are pretty great. Think we paid about $30 and definitely do the job and holding up after 3 years of heavy use. Came with a stand, brush, scoop, tongs, and poker.
Curious what you use the tongs for? I heat primarily with a wood stove and I’ve never used the tongs. Poker and broom get used regularly. I use a pair of welding gloves for any grabbing that needs doing.
Came here to say welding gloves. Feels like cheating.
Tongs are a game changer
Not tongs but I have a high efficiency grate from Grate Wall of Fire. Game changer
+1 on having them made! My grandfather made these for my mom and she gave them to me. fireplace tools

Find a metal fab shop near you, tell them what you're looking for. Might cost a few hundred, but it's better than spending a slightly smaller amount for junk
