I need to buy new earrings and am planning to buy an engagement ring soon. Any suggestions on helpful, reliable, friendly jewelers that aren’t going to screw me on the price and/or quality? Thanks.

For an engagement ring, I'd travel out to Pikesville to Radcliffe. Great quality, and they won't "screw you" on the price. Their prices are on the high side, but it's b/c they have such a great reputation for quality and customer service. Feel free to message me and I can give you more info on the sales associates that I have worked with there.
My husband and I had my engagement ring made at A&M Jewler's in Catonsville. I can not recommend them enough. His prices were higher but by no means exploitative. I have pictures of him making the ring, step by step. He also worked with us to design the ring from scratch and it is very unique and utterly gorgeous. I will say he and his wife are... weird. But they are very good at what they do and I will never go anywhere else after the experiences we have had there.
St. John's Jewelers in Ellicott City!! They did my engagement ring and wedding band, and I've used them for other items here and there. They're knowledgable and really help you find what you're looking for within your price range. I can't reccomend them highly enough!!
They are my family’s favorite jeweler, and my dad’s go-to for gifts, lol. My wedding ring is from there, got a really good price on it because it was an estate ring, and we’ve had other pieces of jewelry worked on and repurposed by them.
Edward Arthur in Columbia Mall is a great place. They’ve got a good selection of stuff in-store also and the staff are all OGs in jewelry. Jerry, Bill, and Madeline are great sales people. Their goldsmith, Kyle, does amazing work and does customs too.
King's Contrivance Jewelers. I went there for an engagement ring. My (now) wife had specific ideas of what she liked and disliked and I went there, just based on reviews. Patrick is the owner and he is absolutely fantastic. He made something completely custom just based on a couple photos and it was so picture perfect of what she wanted. He was great with me being relatively ignorant on jewelry, explaining why to do to this or do that. He's funny, pleasant, perhaps a little eccentric, but he's great. Texted me throughout the process, even had me come in and look at the "ingredients" of the ring before he made it.
There ended up being an issue, he had received a tainted batch of a metal and it didn't present itself until she had worn the ring for a week or two. I texted him about the issue and he told me to bring it in and when I did, he showed me the leftovers that he had used for my ring and sure enough it was showing the same signs as the ring. He completely reproduced the ring in really short order and it's a near copy, even added a couple extra stones for the trouble.
I'm always looking for an opportunity to sing Patrick's praise. He's the man.
I had the exact opposite experience. I wanted something custom made, yet he handed us a magazine of pre-made rings to purchase from. Super unhelpful, would not recommend.
We went to St. John’s Jewelers right after and it was a world of difference. Linda is amazing and was so excited to work on our project. I can’t recommend her and her shop enough.
Edward Arthur did great work on my wife's rings
I’m curious about your engagement ring process there. We got my e ring from Linda and we didn’t have the greatest experience with her which I’m really baffled by because of all the great reviews. She was 4 weeks past our deadline and was just very non- transparent about the whole process. Maybe I just had higher expectations.
Really?? I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience with them! We worked with Linda as well. We weren't on a deadline so I didn't notice that aspect. That's definitely a bummer!! Reflecting on the experience, I suppose we didn't have much communication after placing the order until it was time to pick it up. That's good for others to know to be wary about deadlines/turnaround time with them!
