West Hartford is the better option.

Love it there but it’s just way more expensive and not a lot of options. Hartford has so much affordable housing that I would just like to know what areas are worth it

I used to manage 1500 apartments in the area. Most of Hartford is not great - it’s cheap for a reason. You’ll want to look for an apartment as close to West Hartford as possible, but just over the line on the Hartford side. Those areas tend to be just as good as West Hartford.

Downtown- lived there for about a decade and know many single women who have lived in the area. Your biggest danger will be from the cars.

I would recommend Plainville or Bristol first. You can get cheaper apartments there too, in the $900 to $1000 price range (sometimes less), and live in a safer area, while also having access to the FastTrack bus. I will get you to Hartford for events, or for work, and to the bowling alley and movie theater in Plainville.

New Britain works too for cheaper apartments, but you have to know the neighborhood. Living near the college or a neighboring suburb is better.
