The article says that the “issues” came from the vehicle being too far away from the camera to get a clear view. It happens.

Then what good are they? Perhaps they need an upgrade? Now I'm no cameraologist but I can see my own house from space using Google, what good are these cameras if they can't see across the street?

I’m a “cameraologist”. It’s impossible to get 4k video coverage of every square foot of New Haven streets. You have to pick your spots and your configuration. Cameras are configured for best “all purpose” use. For instance, you can optimize for moving cars and license plates by increasing shutter speed to reduce motion blur, but increased shutter speed means less light is hitting the sensor, which leads to darker, fuzzier video at night.

Oh I see, so lighting played a roll in the quality of footage? Any idea of why it has taken more than a month to "sift" through the footage before releasing to public

Just a guess. Cops are slow. Could be that white on Hispanic crimes are lower priority than vice-versa? 🤷♂️
