According to the President of the Thompson Historical Society, Railroad Fireman Mike Flynn told his supervisor - the night before the crash - that he was not going to report for service because "something bad" was going to happen. Jerry Fitzgerald filled in for him, and was killed in the crash (one of only three people, miraculously, who were killed in the multiple crashes - although dozens were injured).
