Hi, My husband and I (plus 2 kids) qualified for Husky A Health Insurance in 2021 and 2022. During 2022 our income increased above the Husky max limits and now it looks like we won't be able to renew our HUSKY insurance for 2023. Given or incomes went above the max limits to qualify during 2022, when we already had Husky...when we do our 2022 taxes in a few months, will we have to pay HUSKY any money back? I am nervous about this. Have you experience this in the past? Could you share your insights? Thanks,

Sadly, I think you are meant to report the increase in income when it happens, not wait until renewal. I'd call asap.

My uncle got a raise and didn't report it. Said he didn't know.

Ended up costing him a lot of money and 2.5 yrs of his life.

Definitely report the increase as soon as possible. There is currently a public health emergency in effect that is extending Husky coverage anyway. Since the PHE is extending the husky coverage in my opinion more than likely you will not end up paying anything back. Also Husky eligibility is based on current/ monthly income and eligibility doesn’t have much to do with tax filing other than your tax household size versus the federal poverty level. There are other programs that the annual gross income is the number being looked at but for Medicaid it’s the monthly / current income only that is taken into account.

I think you are supposed to report significant changes promptly. Maybe within 30 days? Something like that?

You have to report the change as soon as possible. But you'll remain eligible throughout the public health emergency. Income changes aren't affecting or changing your Husky eligibility during the PHE.

Filing taxes and paying back isn't a Husky thing, you're thinking of Marketplace insurance with Advanced Premium Tax Credits.

Call Access health and talk to them . We are still in a state of emergency but I'm not sure if thats only effects Medicaid or the other Huskey Options but it looks like Huskey A is part of Medicaid and should be under the state of emergency rules.
