Was the first CD I ever owned (received at Christmas 1990 along with my first cd player, and a few months after the milli vanilli scandal had broke and they were disgraced).

Some people are of the opinion that the "band" was disgraced even before they got caught. They were an early obvious example of a "band" run by a corporation which no actual talent and a lot of technology and out-of-touch fashion stylists. All designed to hit on modern trends. It was as generic pop as it gets.

All true. I was using the word "disgraced" to mean "mocked endlessly and quickly out of the public eye." But yes, they were a corporate pop creation like many other acts.
