Sure, nationally police violence is a thing, but historically (particularly in recent years) protests have never been met with unjustified violence. Police have generally treated peaceful protesters with respect, and announcing that you're armed seems inflammatory.

Again, I support carry, but was it necessary as a protestor policy?

I'm referencing the protests following Floyd's death...protestors in CT were peaceful (for example, blocking of I-84) and the police prayed with them and asked them to leave to let ambulances through.

Yes, there isolated incidences, but not the deadly and consistent violence in response to protests. Is the best way to counter that lethal weapons? Would pepper spray not have been enough?

How does having a gun prevent you from being tazed by law enforcement? I understand the other commenter's point about counter-protestors -- being armed for this purpose is a good thing to me. Just wondering how being armed would make you seem like less of a threat and thus less likely to be attacked by police

Anyone who goes armed is highly likely to have the state revoke their gun license. The police themselves are the ones who decide who is allowed to have a license or own a gun.

I forsee a law being passed very quickly that makes it a felony to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition while in attendance at a public protest

I think it is that there are other “units” just like the one in Memphis all over the United States, that state-sanctioned violence against civilians via a progressively armed police seems dystopian, and that a person can wind up dead from a traffic stop. Sure, these cops were arrested, but the ability for them to do what they have done in the first place is what the problem is. Edit: also, if it weren’t for similar protests in the past over similar events then these 5 cops might have gotten away with murder. National public outcry at these things helps ensure justice is found.

Yeah. There have been people killed in Hartford and New Haven. March and continue to push for the repeal of qualified immunity.

Well, the one from yesterday. The court ruled police can shove people out of anger and it’s okay to injure them in Stamford court.
