Hasn’t gone wrong in the past 3 years we’ve been leading them.

Looking below it seems like you referenced acts that happened the past 2 years that could be considered gone wrong…

I gather the protesters were armed...I support gun rights but was that necessary here in CT, or is that a copy of national groups? Sure, nationally police violence is a thing, but historically (particularly in recent years) protests have never been met with unjustified violence. Police have generally treated peaceful protesters with respect, and announcing that you're armed seems inflammatory.

Again, I support carry, but was it necessary as a protestor policy?

No they haven’t. The Connecticut historical society has an entire archive. Lol. We provide our own security and West Haven police broke a man’s spine in 2020, denied me my asthma meds in 2021. They just beat on Gordon Cox from Shelton. Etc.

I'm referencing the protests following Floyd's death...protestors in CT were peaceful (for example, blocking of I-84) and the police prayed with them and asked them to leave to let ambulances through.

Yes, there isolated incidences, but not the deadly and consistent violence in response to protests. Is the best way to counter that lethal weapons? Would pepper spray not have been enough?

They have the right to 2a, it is for their safety.

There could be people who are against the protesters.

He’s indicating the protest led by the same people in 2020…. Me and my brothers.

It’s nice that you reference the protest we led without attending. We stopped being the victims of violence at local rallies when we announced we would be legally armed.

Same protesters led it. Me, my brothers.

In fact, I’m on video screaming at a cop who was about to taze my friend in 2020 and I warned him I was filming. The mayor came on the highway with us.

How does having a gun prevent you from being tazed by law enforcement? I understand the other commenter's point about counter-protestors -- being armed for this purpose is a good thing to me. Just wondering how being armed would make you seem like less of a threat and thus less likely to be attacked by police

urbanfirestrike t1_j6dmyox wrote

Police don’t go after threats, they only attack the weak and defenseless

Bingo. If you're a minority group marching in the streets then you should be armed. It sends a powerful message.

TreeEleben t1_j692tep wrote

Anyone who goes armed is highly likely to have the state revoke their gun license. The police themselves are the ones who decide who is allowed to have a license or own a gun.

I forsee a law being passed very quickly that makes it a felony to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition while in attendance at a public protest

Lilcoqui17 OP t1_j697fxm wrote

They’ve been saying that for years. It won’t happen. All our protests are armed and we are on record saying so in the state capital.

You’re ridiculous and going to get someone killed. The threat you made against west Hartford today was sickening. You have nothing but hate in your heart.

I think it is that there are other “units” just like the one in Memphis all over the United States, that state-sanctioned violence against civilians via a progressively armed police seems dystopian, and that a person can wind up dead from a traffic stop. Sure, these cops were arrested, but the ability for them to do what they have done in the first place is what the problem is. Edit: also, if it weren’t for similar protests in the past over similar events then these 5 cops might have gotten away with murder. National public outcry at these things helps ensure justice is found.

ZaggahZiggler t1_j66g1lv wrote

Memphis is 1200 miles to the south east. Go "seek justice" there.

Lilcoqui17 OP t1_j67x1iy wrote

Yeah. There have been people killed in Hartford and New Haven. March and continue to push for the repeal of qualified immunity.

Lilcoqui17 OP t1_j685rx7 wrote

Well, the one from yesterday. The court ruled police can shove people out of anger and it’s okay to injure them in Stamford court.
