I have two EVs (Tesla model 3 and Y), and my house is all electric (geothermal, induction, heat pump water heater). I was lucky and managed the switch to Constellation before their rates went up significantly. My last bill was around $600 (which still beats the heck out of what I was paying for oil, gasoline, and electric for the house). Given, last year, my Jan bill was closer to 1k. It has been so mild this winter that I haven't even run aux heat to keep my house warm.

For my EV, I use around 400 kWh per month to keep it charged up. If you're on Eversource's new rates, you would pay $140 to charge the car to drive around 1100 miles. Pretty on par with an efficient gas car (30 mpg average). If you were going EV, I'd urge you to consider getting solar. I don't pay anything for over half the year.

16 kw. It isn't enough, but it will still pay for itself in a few years. I'd like to add more panels at some point.

What company did your solar install? I only got 1 quote for solar of 40k and thought that was quite expensive for a 2000 sq ft house with no EV's yet.

I used Tesla. I paired the solar with 4 power walls, so my purchase price isn't really comparable. You can go on their website and get a quote really quickly. Good products, but their project management left something to be desired. At the time, they guaranteed the lowest price.

Would you recommend GeoThermal? I looked into it a few years ago but was very expensive and only dandelion was an installer from what I could tell

I’d actually go air source heat pump (mini split) if I did it over again. The geo is great, but the payback period is a lot longer. The coefficient of performance is only slightly better on geo vs air source (4 vs 3).

To jump on this... anyone use the CT rebate for ev charger installation. I saw tesla was eligible and not the rivian one.

I agree with Dingo on the costs

I think I did the federal tax credit for both chargers. I didn't know that CT had a rebate. As a side note, I still wholeheartedly recommend an EV if you can afford one. The lack of routine maintenance is great. Wiper blades, washer fluid, and tires are about it.

Yes I love mine. Only had a few weeks. I definitely will get the fed credit. CT has tax credits too but I don't qualify. I just read through CT and Eversource there are two rebates. One is for charger (500 for install if wire upgrade is needed and 500 for chager) but I bought the Rivian charger and don't think it's on the list of eligible ones at least yet. There is also a rebate to sign up for.. up to 300 I'd you don't charge tour EV during peak events. You need a charger that can communicate with the network or whatever. I haven't read the deets yet as I am just getting started

Have a PHEV- a plug in hybrid. Charge it nearly every day. 8.9 KWH battery. Tank of gas in the vehicle in a typical month lasts 5-6 weeks. Approximately 1000 miles on a fill up. We have solar panels and month to month we don’t pay.

You can do the math out if you're curious.

EVs tend to get between 3 and 4 miles per KWh. Just figure out how many miles you drive, or something drives, and do the math out.
