Hi! Looking to move to CT with my husband and newborn. Most important things are good schools.
Currently looking at Ridgefield Wilton Newtown and Southbury.
I could use niche to look at schools but always helpful to hear from people who actually live in these areas.
Anything you can share would be helpful!
Can’t go wrong with the towns you mentioned. Would need to hear more criteria but I’d look at Cheshire, Bethany, Woodbridge, Orange, Guilford, Madison, Avon, Simsbury.
Most schools in CT are decent to great.
Move where your house budget allows you.
Those are all good towns. A bit pricey but I guess that’s all relative. Southbury is pretty. It’s in New Haven County so just outside of Fairfield County which in some instances and give you a bit of a break on taxes. But again, relatively speaking.
Yeah if you heat your house with electric. My average is 200 for a large house.
What’s your budget? Wilton and Ridgefield will be the priciest. Newtown is still up there, Southbury is outside Fairfield county(but borders Newtown) so it’s the most reasonable, but still pricy. All school systems are good, but feeling the strain of a lot of transplants in recent years. Is commuting distance a consideration?

Will work be centered around Danbury? these are all towns surrounding that area? Could probably throw Brookfield in there as well.
Wilson and Ridgefield will be very expensive, even for CT. Great schools though.
If you're in a work from home situation, Avon/Farmington/Glastonbury/Simsbury might be less expensive but have among the best public schools in the state ( which also means in the country). S Windsor, Canton, and Southington aren't far behind.

My work is actually in Westchester and family is in Queens, so I'm going the other way. That's why Newtown/Southbury is probably as far as we'll go.

It is! I work in Westchester and my family is all in Queens, so trying to not stray too, too far.
Well, Southbury would probably be too far of a commute. Newtown would be a little long, over an hour or worse, but doable. The other towns obviously better, if they are on the pricy side maybe consider Bethel, I suppose schools aren’t as highly rated. There is also Monroe, Trumbull, Easton or Redding. All good schools, nice suburban towns. If the budget is good for it, Ridgefield has a really nice downtown, might be a little snobby though.
It’s actually easier to get to NY from Southbury/Woodbury on 84 to 691 than it is on 95 from FFC. Less traffic and thus overall shorter commute.
There are certain towns/areas that have MUCH better schools and overall feel. However, they are kinda random in location. Which area you choose (ie. Glastonbury vs. Cheshire vs. Avon/Simsbury) depends on your daily commute. They may look fairly close together on a map, but towns like Simsbury do not have an entrance to the highway. So what should be a short commute ends up being 45 min+

My only advice for someone moving here is to check your current electric usage against what eversource is charging right now. It’s a huge shock to the system to see your first $700 electric bill after moving here.
