Family friend was told she was to limit activity as much as possible towards the end of her pregnancy, they said she was close to needing bed rest. EB gave her a hard time about using the elevator to get to her desk and she wound up quitting because the stairs were too much. That's all I need to know about a company

Worked at EB for years. They are hiring 5,000 because they lost 2000 when they were trying to increase by 3000. Highest turnover rate I have ever seen and the average experience in the yard is now under 5 years.

I was hired for a job I had zero skillset/desire for. I'm an IT guy. I was hired for what I thought was an IT job. It turned out to be a call center job. I was hired two months previously and had to wait on background checks and all this crap. No one ever mentioned it was a call center job. Not even in the ad. I was and still am pissed about it. Not only that but I have zero desire to struggle to find parking every morning when I get to work. I shouldn't have to arrive 45 minutes early just to get a parking space. Fuck that. Also, fuck the lifers that spend all day doing nothing. That place seemed to be filled with them. My former boss included.

These are entry level jobs but require training. The pay scale still the same for semi-skilled welders and machinists. Maybe 1st year no exp this is fair pay but a trained machinist or welder should be making more than this.
Their “skilled” machinists and welders pay scale is 25-35, which again is on the low side.

Yes. 100%. Better pay, benefits, culture. Better everything. Especially if you're an engineer...I was at EB for over 5 years before I quit to go to Pratt and I regret waiting so long. There are so many ex-EB employees at Pratt that EB is seen as a joke there.
If you're an engineer looking for work in CT, don't waste your time with EB.

Nothing to do with AUKUS. EB is hemorrhaging employees like crazy while trying to start the Columbia class. The navy has no confidence in carriers being effective in a modern conflict with china, so they are trying to push sub production and are running into the exact opposite result.

As much as I hate to say it, wars are never going to go away. And there will eventually be a WWIII. It's just a matter of time, so it's better to be prepared than not.
And future wars will most likely be fought 90% with naval/air force and drones as they can conduct operations with minimal loss of human life by not putting people on the front lines.

It’s just socialism with extra steps, that’s why it won’t ever go away. If we stopped funding these companies rn we would become a welfare state. If the gov really wanted to change they would have to do some big investments in some type of new industry (energy?) but even then I’m not sure how many jobs would be there, we have Pratt, EB and Sikorsky basically running the state in jobs.

Yeah the defense industry lobby is strong. And its fortified by obviously people who rely on those jobs.
The change would have to come from a federal level. That is why I liked the idea of the Green New Deal because it would have injected tons of money into building infrastructure, energy, etc. that we need and might've given us an alternative to defense sector jobs.
It will take a massive cultural and economic shift for sure.

You're not required to lift anything heavy. There is a rigging team to help with any of that. A small tool bag is about it.
There are unskilled openings in the offices too, such as the Planning department.
