It looks like the bulb broke free from its threaded base. You should be able to disconnect the power and unscrew the base from the socket. Might need a pair of needle nose pliers to get a grip on it.

Oh snap, you're right! Both bulbs came out from their threaded base...wtf?
Still not really sure what kind of bulbs these are, to order replacements. any ideas?

edit: do you think they're 'r14 40 watt' bulbs?

There should be some identifying marks on the underside of the bulb (the sort of gray bit). You might have better luck taking them to a batteries and bulbs store or even a local home improvement store
