When I made my most recent dice tray, I just used yellow/wood glue and about 50lbs of weight to ensure an even bond between the wood and sueded leather. Still holding great after a few months.

Is there enough play between the plywood boards so they don't lever against eachother?

I've had really good luck with leather and PVA adhesives (eg wood glue) too.
