Superglue a toothpick in. The screw will grab the wood just fine. If you have the cheap flat toothpicks put one on each side.

Or you can fill the hole with cotton, then saturate the cotton with superglue . After it dries, drill it out and screw in only screw. This process works well with cupboard hinges.

Don't do this. Some types of CA glue soaked into cotton can catch fire.

Almost all CA glue is a fire hazard with cotton, especially fine cotton fibers.

Can confirm. Put drop of superglue on denim to stop fraying. Unexpected exothermic.
