This and the Dingle Peninsula, we’re some of my favorite places to explore when I went to Ireland.
interprime t1_jblr7t3 wrote
I may be biased as I grew up only about a 20 minute drive from Dingle, but I truly believe that the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry are the most beautiful places on earth
GomerStuckInIowa t1_jbn2sbv wrote
Not biased if it’s the truth. I love that area.

Been there. The whole Wicklow Mountains area is amazingly beautiful. Wild heather, gorgeous lakes, winding roads…. Damn I need to go back.

LotR vibes.

Actually, a lot of scenes set in Kattegat from Vikings were shot there or very close to this place.

Okay, that's freaking awesome. Thank you for telling me!

Honestly heaps of places around Ireland look like they were ripped straight out of LotR - the whole Wicklow Mountains SAC, the area in the south west in co. Kerry, and pretty much every SAC along the west coast. Really pretty country.

Oh I loved visiting Glendalough when I lived in Dublin. Always took my friends there who were visiting. Beautiful picture, thanks for sharing!

We only spent a few days in Dublin once, but wanted to get out on a day trip. The most popular seemed to be Moher, but when I read that ten hours would be spent on a bus in a single day I decided to look for something closer. Went here instead and it was honestly incredible, best decision ever. Howth also lived up to the hype!

Thank you so much for sharing this photo. It brings back so many happy memories of a visit my (late) husband and I made to Ireland, and this exact spot, back in 2002.

It appears to have been windy when this photo was taken. That would not be uncommon for this area.

The hike around upper lake is amazing. The gnats around upper lake, not so much. Was there for a wedding and an hour in we all looked like we had measles :P
