Indeed it is. My wife is from Thermopolis and I love driving the canyon whenever we visit her relatives.

I’ve always thought the highway that cuts right through it ruins the view a little.

Driving on that highway is amazing though. Growing up in the plains then driving through that pass was quite the experience. I felt bad for my wife who gets carsick and had to close her eyes the whole time.

I live in GTNP in the summer and absolutely love coming out here to get away from the crowds. The Winds will always be my absolute favorite

The opening of the canyon near Shoshone starts of in the Precambrian era nearly a billion years ago. The canyon ends in the Permian 250 million years ago. Nearly every geologic layer in the interim, covering the evolution of animal and plant life, is visible indexed like a library. When you exit the canyon toward Thermopolis, you enter the bright red sandstone and shales of the Triassic, when dinosaurs first began to evolve. Thermopolis itself is covered in the Jurassic and Cretaceous, the peak of dinosaurs. This area is famous for textbook geology.

Was totally worth the extra hour to detour through that instead of the flatness of I-25

Drove through this so many times when younger. Wyoming is oddly ugly and beautiful.

I've stood near where you're standing before but in the fall, and I can pretty literally hear the wind in this picture. Thanks for the wide view.

It is. One of the most amazing hiking areas I have ever been in. Told them at the Stockman in Pinedale to enjoy their quiet sleepy little town to enjoy it while it lasts. This will surely change.
