Weird seeing my hometown here! But lovely. It's looking very green (been a few years since I've been back).

Certainly is very green with the endless rain we've been having this year. Hadn't seen flowers up there like this until this month either

Same. Melbourne just doesn't feel the same. Not enough roundabouts.

"Wait. You mean to tell me Australia ISN'T just one giant spider/scorpion/kangaroo infested desert?"

In all serious though, beautiful pic. I'd love to visit northern Australia's (rain?)forests, though. Cool stuff! One of my birds comes from there!

There plenty of kangaroos in and around the ACT. They’re a fucking menace.

We have rain forests all over! The one you’re thinking of is probably Daintree.

What kind of bird?

(Citron-crested?) Cockatoo

infraredit t1_iwf9nu7 wrote

Thanks. The citron-crested cockatoo is actually from Indonesia, though the similar Sulphur crested one lives in northern Australia's rainforests among many other biomes including the one depicted in the OP photo.

Nice shot but it’s ruined by too much post-processing. Less is more

Well, one could also say spicy pickles are gross....

Respectfully disagree. From many pictures on this sub that end up being waaaay too much edited, this one doesn’t look at all.

The tree has a halo

You don't know it doesn't in person

Halos are something that usually happen when someone is over HDRing in post and they don’t know how to avoid such shit results.

1

mrsqueevoot OP t1_iwdwubk wrote

I'm fairly happy with the image but that ghosting around the tree is definitely annoying me now haha! I'm wondering what it is because even the other images that I haven't stacked have a subtle ghost around them in each of the different exposures

1

juicejack t1_iwdx0jx wrote

Stacking is always going to leave some residual halos. Go back in and dodge and burn them away

I agree, I kind of like the processed look sometimes, and I think it hits a nice balance of creating the mood and an other worldly quality. Each to their own. I hope OP keeps photographing and experimenting to their tastes.

Me too! They were only there for a couple minutes and you could see me clumsily get my shit together on the hill trying to get ready for the photo

Lovely photo :) my family visited my brother and his family in Thirroul in August, and we took a trip to Canberra (and Sydney and Melbourne). We went to the arboretum. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the country.

I recognize Brassica, Verbascum, Vulpia, Trifolium and Avena being the understory. Maybe a thistle species in there too.
