My favorite hike! Was lucky to grow up on the north shore.

Do you feel that it’s still worth moving there?

It’s absolutely stunning to this day. It is the garden island, and it’s the most rural island chain aside from the big island. I would say it’s definitely worth moving there, but you need to have certain expectations before you go. There is a lot of tourism, which means that there is a lot of traffic, and at certain times of year, it can be pretty unbearable if you don’t know how to sort of check out mentally and not get irritated by a bunch of people who are not always the most respectful.
A lot of people that live on the island get frustrated with it, but there is a certain balance to it. The island's primary income is tourism so you have to be accepting of it in a way.
It's also unrealistically expensive to live there, even compared to other islands. Housing is difficult to come by even though jobs are a dime a dozen right now, but a lot don’t pay very well.
if you have a trade, are a hard worker, or are industrious in any way, you can definitely succeed there. Most people have to work multiple jobs to make it happen, though, at least, in the beginning, which is not the most appealing when you’re coming from the mainland where you can live pretty comfortably and get by on one job in most instances.
In my opinion, it’s worth the struggle. Definitely do your research before you decide to move to any of the islands, because it’s a different pace, it’s a different world, and it’s a completely different way of life in good ways and bad ways.

yay thats awesome; I actually proposed to my fiancee there and we both adored Kauai after a week there especially since we love nature and are just sick of mainland big city pollution, traffic, and insane people. Even considering the fact that we had vacation goggles on that skewed our perspective, we just loved it even more after every day.
We do want to move there in the future and it is somewhat feasible since my partner works from home and makes a decent wage and I work in the medical field. But we would probably move there after I finish grad school in the future.
I just wanted your opinion since you're a true native and to seek your insight besides the blogs, articles, and other online resources we've used to better understand living in Kauai. Thank you very much!

My mom owns a bakery there, so we got to visit yearly. It's a beautiful place, and if you can pull it off its well worth it. Definitely plan your move 100% before you get there though. A lot of people look for work and permanent residence after they get to the island, which does not work out. Hope you get to make it your home. Just remember to be respectful to everything and everyone you see.
