Kurzweil has been saying that the singularity is "5 years away" for about 20 years now. I no longer consider him a reliable source for any of this.

Ever since Ray wrote the book "The Singularity Is Near" in 2005 his predicted date for the Singularity has always been 2045. His estimated date has not changed since.

Although it's becoming more obvious these days that it's likely going to take a bunch of conceptual breakthroughs to change course towards AGI from what's currently being developed. Admittedly he foresaw things to be quite different than they are today. Also the broken record stuff...
