I also like the concept of fear times confidence/ability equalling bravery. A brave person is fearful but is capable of overcoming the fear all the same. Meanwhile, an imbalance of these two creates these distortions:

  • too much fear with too little confidence = coward
  • too much fear with too much confidence = extremely anxious but using excessive force as a coping mechanism
  • too little fear with too little confidence = depressed and hopeless
  • too little fear with too much confidence = reckless
