The young brain has an easier time reading speed than adjusting for the arc of a slow-pitched ball. They will have better results with the faster pitches and it will be more fun for everyone.

Firmly agree. Just stand closer to put a little zip on the ball.
If needed, get something to stand behind, but honestly the kiddo won't hit it that hard.

You also need to stand far enough away so they can track the ball.
Many people stand way to close when pitching to a small child
