Don’t wear a button down shirt to a wedding, that’s a casual weekend shirt.

A button-down shirt is not a (button-up) dress shirt. A button-down shirt is made from Oxford cloth and has little buttons that fasten the collar points to the shirt. It is never appropriate for business or formal wear.

Don’t have to. If you’re wearing a blue shirt and blue tie, and spill, your white backup shirt will still match your tie.
