Quinine is what makes tonic water work. Unfortunately some less reputable brands advertise as tonic water but don’t have quinine (idk how tho).

Worse, some are club soda with tons of salt and carbonation. The salt can help but carbonation is typically bad as it can lower your pH. After exercise your body has likely produces lactic acid and the carbonation can make it take longer to clear the acid.

Regular tonic water though will work fine and is relatively safe, and cool under a UV light.

Both can help, but one may help you more than the other.

If your magnesium is low, pickle juice/mustard will help more than the quinine in tonic water.
