Seems like this would work for the first layer, but then after a few inches, sharp trash would be just as likely to go to the sides if the bag.

When I was in restaurants some of the take out containers would always have a defect so that they weren't the best for customers (or if they just got dropped on the floor while stocking). We marked these (red sharpie up all side of a stack -10 seconds) and kept these near the big trash cans. We trained everyone to dump broken glass or metal into these and seal before dropping in a bag.

Same goal achieved.

Uuugggghhhhh Yes!

Although I did have someone drop a gallon, it cracked... they put tape on it and carefully put it in the trash with the cut side up.... it get covered with more trash. Go to take the bag out, it it pretty heavy and has 8 inches of liquid at the bottom.

There was a lot of cursing that night and thankfully that brain trust did not last long.
