Sounds to me like you need to ask your friend all about book-baptism protocols in Eastern Europe.

If your friend’s mother is an author (writer of books) is it possible you’ve been invited to a book launch, where the author is introduced and the new book debuts?

Oh my I guess that's it. Thanks. It's probably not called baptism of a book and book launch

If it is a book launch, you’ll want to wear something nice, be groomed, and be ready to participate in the applause for your friend’s mom’s new book. She may have a table to sit at to meet and greet fans who purchase her book, and may sign (autograph) books for them.

Collecting signed first edition books can be an exciting hobby, even for the casual reader.

Okay, thank you. What if I fuck it up? Or how do I not fuck it up?

Presuming this is in a public place, like a bookstore, staff there will be experienced in handling book launches.

If you’re polite and not swinging off the light fixtures singing Katy Perry songs, you’ll probably be ok.
