It's fine to want to end one's life in nature but there are a lot of places that aren't as public as Acadia NP. If someone really wants to give themselves back to nature, they should go up to a forest in the County where nobody will ever find them.

That is a good point, and very true.
There is so much wild up there, you really wouldn't be found

These woods are more populated than you think. I live off grid off a dirt rd on a logging road another mile in that ends at a gate. Most days somebody drives by. Bear baiters come by every day to refresh the bait barrels and people just drive up to the gate at the river and turn around. Not on any atv trail map or anything, just people driving around, hunters, foresters, logging crews , fish and game wardens. Now in fall it is alot quieter, days go by without seeing someone but a few live off grid year round here and they sort of patrol the road in their utvs. But I admit this is southern Aroostock not up in the crown.

No please don't come up here. They found a skeleton in the woods never me and once they discovered they were from away they kind of shrugged. Foresters found the bones when accessing timber. I was there Friday at ANP and the place was a madhouse so we drove north towards Machias. One hour of looking for a parking space and then seeing every trail head parking overloaded convinced me to avoid that park except maybe winter or really early spring.

Acadia’s really not bad once you get out on the trails. A lot of people never make it very far from Park Loop Road.

The trail head parking was jammed. I will go when the crowds die down. Went years before and saw hardly anyone. What a difference from 20 years ago. There are plenty of other great spots and trails so no problem.
hike_me t1_it9g0qc wrote
Yeah, I live in Bar Harbor and I’ve seen a noticeable change in crowds over the last 15+ years. Still, even when the parking lots are full it’s usually not too bad once you get on trail because everyone that parked at the trailhead is spread out (and possibly taking different routes).
