I hate to recommend them, but honestly, Airbnb hosts may work with you?

My landlord works with any type of workers (nurses, construction, etc) for their Airbnb units.

Otherwise, housing is short lately, there are plenty of people looking for housing and unable to find affordable housing... But airbnbs are EVERYWHERE.

Browse through the areas you're looking at and try contacting the host. Most would be very happy to at least have someone in to make money off of, especially this time of year.

I know a couple travel nurses that are getting absolutely hosed on their apartments. They took whatever they could find and are paying $2000+ for small, shitty apartments. You’ll have to get lucky, especially with 2 dogs.

Maybe rent a house and split it with a couple other nurses?

I know someone in Bangor? Definitely not southern Maine but fully furnished and dog friendly. DM me if you want

My husband and I moved to Maine from Texas this summer. I thought, “I’ll start looking a month and a half in advance. That’s enough time.” Wrong. So wrong.

We ended up moving to northern Maine in a rural town (hours northeast of Portland) because we also have pets. Southern Maine had zero availability, almost every apartment had waiting lists, and any rentals that allowed pets were only okay with one small dog at the very least.

I’d try reaching out to the travel nurse coordinator at whatever hospital you’re looking to work at. They’ll have a list of rentals available and will know if they allow pets or not.
