Noice, but I prefer the one in Harrison, it's got more stuff on it!

I too prefer Harrison. But it’s because of Melby’s and their malted milkshakes

Melby's is in Waterford, Market Basket/Harrison General Store is in Harrison. And, as of a month or two ago, Melby's closed. RIP Melby's/Tutt's.

Haha you are very correct. I tend to just think of everything between Naples and bethel as Harrison (sorry Sweden and Norway and waterford).

But that news about Melby’s closing is the saddest thing I’ve heard in a while. Do you have any additional info on why they shuttered?

Edit: reversed my towns Edit 2: spellcheck

Yeah, staffing and COVID keeping the tourists away had a lot to do with it. But the Hills have plans for a food truck next year, so the Buffalo Burger will ride again soon!

That is great to hear! Hopefully they find much success

That's about two miles from my in-laws. The house near that sign has an extraordinary amount of lawn decorations.

I love that someone wrote “near Paris, Maine.” Like, 15 miles from Paris?

Because Lynchville Maine just doesn't have the same charm as the named towns

My town’s ice cream shop used to sell postcards, including this one, when I was a kid. Personally, I preferred the one that had a picture of a potato on a toy flatbed truck, and was simply captioned “Maine Potato”.

I may have this post card somewhere...

I’m recreating this sign lettering as a font. It’s way better than what the DOT uses now.

I think there used to be a Reny’s right near that sign.

Has anyone else noticed that the mileage and directions make absolutely no sense?

iglidante t1_j01tu4b wrote

What makes you say that?

siebzy t1_j01u7ls wrote

Um, a map?

iglidante t1_j01x6fk wrote

I guess a big part of what I mean is, do you really know all the roads in that area of the state well enough to know that the direction and distance are off? I could work it out eventually, but have no sense of what turns were taken to arrive at each. Presumably you can only go left or right at the intersection. Who knows what twisted path might land you at Paris in however many miles?

GPS has taken a lot of the fun out of the old "You can't get there from here" routine. ;-)

Yes, I do in fact.

Well, props - I can't say the same, so I'll have to take your word for it.

My parents live up that way and one of my mom's hobbies is fantasizing about buying a farm, so I've spent quite a bit of time driving all over those back roads looking at property for sale with her.

Ah yes! The super trendy Lynchville enclave in Albany Township.

Highly sought after neighborhood due to it's proximity to AJ's and Melby's (R.I.P.)
